In addition to state-of-the-art color-matching equipment, the staff of Perspectives Paint and Design Center has countless years of color-matching experience and the ability to match almost any color you bring to us. We have color catalogs from most of the major competitive paint manufacturers and several of the smaller regional paint manufacturers as well. This way, if you need a color from one of our competitors, we can make it for you. Below is a helpful guide to make your color-matching experience fast and efficient.

Custom color matches are time-consuming. Some colors take 5 or 10 minutes, and others could take an hour or more. We average around 30 minutes per color. Feel free to wait and watch as we do our magic; however, we suggest dropping off your colors and coming back later.

The better the sample, the better the match. We’ve matched cookie crumbs, teddy bears, and tree bark. You name it, and we’ve matched it. But remember, the best samples are flat, one solid color, and larger than a quarter.

If you want a color matched in an oil-based product, the wait may be a bit longer. When the paint dries, it changes, in some cases, dramatically. Each time we add pigment to the paint, we have to shake it, draw it down on a sample card, and wait till it dries to see what it looks like. It’s not that it’s harder to match, but we have to wait longer for oil samples to dry.

If you don’t need an exact match, tell your salesperson; this will reduce your wait time. We can get really close to almost any color in just a few minutes. It’s dialing it in exactly, which takes time. So, if you’re repainting everything and your color sample has faded, and you just need a close match, let us know, and one of our salespeople or our design staff can help you find the right color.

Touching up can be tricky. As we’ve stated, we can match almost any color you bring us. When it comes to touching up, it can get tricky for more than one reason. First and foremost, sheen. All paint manufacturers' sheen levels vary. So, if we’re matching a competitor’s satin finish, our satin could be a bit higher or lower in sheen, therefore affecting the touchup capabilities. Our color could be dead on, yet our sheen isn’t, and touchups could stand out. Another issue is fading. Colors fade mostly due to light exposure. One side of your home may have faded more due to heavier exposure to the sun. If we match a sample from only one side of the house, it may not match the other exactly.

What Are Paint Sheens?

Paint comes in a variety of sheens. The following descriptions can help you decide what sheen is right for your project:

  • Flat, also called matte or dull, is used on surfaces that have surface imperfections or where touchup is needed.
  • Eggshell is a popular finish for walls in living areas and bedrooms; it has a low sheen for washability and a softer-looking finish.
  • Satin is the finish of choice for high-traffic and humid locations such as kitchens and bathrooms. It provides scrubability and moisture resistance with a lower sheen than semi-gloss.
  • Semi-gloss is used for areas where a harder finish is required; it is excellent for trim, cabinets, doors, and other high-traffic locations.
  • Gloss is a high sheen for maximum durability and light reflection. Surfaces should be very smooth, as gloss finishes tend to make any surface irregularities more visible.

Specialty Paints

Perspectives Paint and Design Center carries a variety of specialty paints, including swimming pool paint in epoxy, chlorinated rubber, and waterborne, industrial quick dry enamels, and lacquers in both clear and pigmented, and we can load practically any paint into custom spray cans. Modern Masters

Modern Masters is the industry standard in metallic paint. There is a color for every project, with 49 standard colors, which include five sheer colors and nine recently added new colors. In addition, you can intermix any Metallic Paint Collection colors to create your custom color. Metal Effects oxidizing paints create the distinctive and timeless look of bronze and copper patina or the weathered appearance of rusted iron in a matter of minutes on any paintable surface. For the protection of metallic finishes, MasterClear is an interior/exterior, water-based, one-part, self-crosslinking, aliphatic polyurethane/acrylic, non-yellowing topcoat.

MasterClear is formulated with UV absorbers, UV inhibitors, and mar and slip aids to create the best possible protection for Metallic Paint Collection paints without affecting the metallic shimmer. The inherent high abrasion resistance of MasterClear also extends the service life of Metallic Paints on high-traffic interior surfaces and exceeds 3,000 scrub cycles.
